The Hungarian Dragon of the Sky: Sárkánykígyó

Sárkánykígyó

 The Dragon of the Sky

sárkánykígyó (plural sárkánykígyók) /ˈʃarkaːɲkiːɟoː/

A compound word of sárkány (meaning dragon) and kígyó (meaning snake).

A giant, winged lizard from Hungarian folklore, the dragonsnake is the steed of the garabonciás, or the wanderer.

The wanderer raises this dragon for seven years, feeding it until the time comes to sit on its back and take to the skies.

This is when the dragon comes to its full maturity, creating storms along its routes. Many thunderstorms were believed to be the fight between these magnificent beasts and their riders.
